Coney Island Rally

CONEY ISLAND COALITION CALLS FOR NEW YEARS DAY RALLY

In what is probably the biggest and most devastating vanishing of 2008, with our backs turned, in the dark of winter, Coney Island has been destroyed and snatched, from one end of the boardwalk to the other. When spring comes, nothing will remain.

Rally New Year's Day at noon. Click here for more information.

"A few days before Christmas, Thor CEO Joe Sitt’s agents began evicting longtime tenants by cutting off locks, asking for triple the rent, or refusing to discuss 2009 leases. On Christmas Eve, huge custom-sized "Space For Lease" banners were put up on Ruby's Bar & Grill, Nathan’s Boardwalk store, Cha Cha’s, and others businesses on Thor owned property in Coney Island."

NOTE: Ruby's will be open and hosting polar bears...so there's another reason to go out into the cold.

Excellent! We just entered 2009, and I already have my first opportunity to tell somebody (in this case, Mr. Joe Sitt & Co.) to Die In a Fire!

I don't just mean the internet meme, seriously, THE THOR FOLKS SHOULD DIE IN A FIRE.

I guess it's beef jerky time again.

I was out at Coney last week shooting pics. Hadn't been there in years. The subway entrance is new and fresh scrubbed, the old one hadn't changed since the 40s. Much has changed. The greed merchants even leveled a gorgeous old bathhouse on the boardwalk that was covered in mythological and nautical motifs. Slip sliding away.

Yes, The only thing that's left is a few new yorkers.... The rest is gone. In 15 years NYC has transformed 100%. I don't know this place. Not the same place I am from. It's the strangest feeling. Cool blog by the way... Keep it going!

These days, we are progressing and regressing at the same time. If greedy developers have their way, there won't be any open space or trees left. BTW, keep up the good work.

It's a shame that Coney Island is going. I remember spending many of my summers there while living in NY. I've relocated for quite some time now but still remember the good times my friends and I had there.

Sorry to see it go.

That sucks. Why is Coney Island being taken away?

Congratulations for the Blog of Note.

You truly are making a statement. It made me feel nostalgic. Suddenly I realized, there were so many good places of my childhood days that have gone extinct.

On the other hand, I also value the new ones that are coming up. These will also become a part of my nostalgic past when I grow older.

Happy New year!
