Daily Beast

Journalist and author Tim Teeman just did an interview with me over at The Daily Beast. In "The End of New York," we talk about chain stores, cellphones, suburbanization, hyper-gentrification, and polar bears.

Read it here.

P.S. You can buy Tim's book, In Bed with Gore Vidal, at Three Lives bookshop in Greenwich Village.

Outstanding interview. I will be buying the book so as to fund your move to the West Village. You deserve it after all the hard work you've done cataloguing the dissolution of one of the greatest cities that ever was.
Keep up the good fight.

Congrats on the write-up & excellent interview, as well as the other writing gigs you've been picking up here & there. It's really good to see your name pop up in different places!

Moss, you are 100% correct about NYC.

i mentioned several years ago that you should sell the blog as a book. i have always like the WV better than the EV. i traded apts way back w/my friend. my 5th fl walkup 88 2nd ave (5th) $60. rent controlled for her place on jones st. (or was it great jones)? $120. stabilized. when my landlord found out i had to move back. your time will come whether its the blog or the semi fictional book.

Jeremiah has the heart of a libertarian. He just needs to be a little more pissed off about real estate zoning, rent controls, and cronyism. He's clearly pissed off at their effects.

Many thanks DrBOP! Mayor? Not enough power for what I'd want to do. Can I have a benign dictatorship?

We just Bloomberg for 12 years. No more dictators. Interesting article. So you moved here in the 90s- Giuliani time- and think it should stay like that. Well who are you? Some transplant who moved here when the changes had already started and now you're some expert? You remind me of this girl from Iowa handing out flyers at motor city in 99 about some save the EV event. She didnt get that it was already over and her presence - in a hood she would not go to pre guilaini-was the nail in the coffin. There's nothing left.

It doesn't matter when you get here, only what you do after you arrive.

Great interview, Jeremiah! Once again I congratulate you on your endeavor and support your mission wholeheartedly. Sadly, however, I've been noticing more and more comments from out-with-the-old YIMBYs & in-with-the-new luxury-condo-lovers on Curbed NY and other sites lately -- and less and less comments from us grit-and-diversity fans of Old New York. I have a funny feeling though that, in 10 or so years, those same YIMBYs will be complaining and bemoaning the loss of good ol' NYC too. They just haven't been here long enough to establish a deeply felt affection for everything New York -- not yet, at least, but hopefully they will. As someone once said, you know you're a New Yorker when you start complaining that the city isn't as great as it used to be.

Very nice story, filling in more pieces to the puzzle as to who this Mr Moss is. (My 8th grade social studies teacher was dido Mr Moss.)
