I don't want to open a big can of worms here, but a true skinhead is not racist. Most traditional skinheads listen to old ska, reggae, and soul, and I have skin friends and have met skins of all races, including Asian and African American.Sorry to get all serious on you!

Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream already has a brick and mortar store. It's off of Smith Street in Brooklyn (at Bergen). Manhattan plays catch up!

They also have a brick-and-mortar on Manhattan Ave in Greenpoint, which I think was the first.

thanks for the corrections--i'll change it to first Manhattan shop. i guess it's another example of artisanal Brooklyn moving into Manhattan, a sort of interesting reverse gentrification?

Here here 79rigid. I'm Jewish and Puerto Rican and my buddies and I were proud skins (not racists) back in the day. In fact racist skins didn't last very long in those days...

I think the skinhead thing is a mixed bag. I grew up in England, & knew plenty of skinheads (some black or asian) who were not racist at all. And skinheads brought a ton of amazing ska & soul music into the mainstream. There was, however, a sub-section of skinhead culture that was hardcore fascist & affiliated with the National Front, etc. The film This is England reflects some of that. Don't know how that plays out in the U.S. but I imagine there may be similarities?
