
They vanished in 2013 and the storefront sat empty for awhile.
Recently, I noticed it's been turned into this chain that sells "artisanal" gelato. They have dozens of "boutiques" all over the world.

Used to buy hair dryers at Ray's. Was a great place. Vanished like so many others...
That gelato place is incredibly popular, too - always crowded.
Eighth Ave between 42nd and Columbus Circle hasn't been for New Yorkers since the late 80s - it's strictly tourist trade, bridge & tunnel at best. To be avoided like the plague. And, sadly, Ninth Avenue is moving in that same direction.
Are you kidding me? I never forget the last day I was in Ray's. The female sale associate told me that they were going to close the store temporarily to renovate and then reopen. Never happened. I miss it. They used to fix my curling and flat irons.
