Jade Mountain Moving

Has Jade Mountain already been saved? Thanks to the tipster who wrote in to let us know that the endangered Jade Mountain neon sign has been taken down from the roof of Shoolbred's.

Sitting on the sidewalk guarded by two guys, the sign is waiting to be picked up in a van and taken to an undisclosed location for who knows what purpose. This is all the guys knew about it.

There is no sign of CHOW MEIN.

Jade Mountain looks pretty beat up. Many of the neon tubes are broken and the metal is dented and bent in places. The REMAX rental sign remains riveted to the thing, like a cluster of barnacles stuck to the carcass of a beached whale.

Let's hope it's headed for revival and not to the dump.

  1. Hmm. I hope that it's not going to a landfill somewhere...

  3. i looked and i don't think it did. my sense was that they work with the crew on the building, and "were told" to take the sign down and wait for a van. they did not seem related to the van part of things.

i also thought "van" sounded more hopeful than "truck."

  4. I fear this is being taken by junkers...
    Hope I'm wrong.

  5. Relieved to see that ADE MOUNTAIN at least are looking OK. Even in as-is condition, this is a museum quality piece. Viva Jade Mountain!

  6. Sorry T.E.Rinaldi - I think you're looking at the fairly intact back side of ADE MOUNTAIN. The metal work on the front side has been partially crushed and the neon tubes broken.

  7. I really hope this thing ends up in a museum somewhere and didn't get scrapped, it would be so great to see it restored to it's former glory!

  8. When I first moved here, I was so poor I could (and did) live on a large order of pork fried rice from Jade Mountain for two days. Save the sign!
