If yesterday's post on the downfall of Coney Island at the hands of Applebee's got you down, cleanse your palate with this little ditty from Air Supply.
It's 1982's "Even the Nights Are Better" and it's all filmed in Coney Island. There's Gregory & Paul's...
...There's Spookarama and Dante's Inferno, too. And a whole lot of white suit action.
Watch here:
This should have been a warning!
ReplyDeleteAlso, no way can you wear those white suits at an Applebee's now with the double-glazed baby back ribs. Unless they have rib bibs. Do they have rib bibs?
Holy shit this is amazing! I was just thinking about Air Supply for some stupid reason. I haven't heard it in a while, but what's crazy about their greatest hits is how all the choruses get right into your skull while the verses are complete throw-away garbage - for every damn song! There's simply nothing else like it.
ReplyDeleteI'll call your Air Supply with New Kids on the Block

and raise it with The Wanted http://youtu.be/kM3vdN6FJ7E
[just don't ask me how I know these.].
And somewhat apropos, remember Siren Music Festival? Good times, good times.
I'd rather be in 1982.
ReplyDeleteOh Air Supply and Solid Gold dancers, where are you now? And will those Miami Vice suits ever make a comeback, with irony? If only I'd held onto my Air Supply LP, but at least I'll always have Kodak pics to remind me of my Aqua Net wings and Maybelline eye shadow.
ReplyDeleteThe first time my dad ever took my brother and me to Coney Island, I was enthralled. I was sad to go home. Too true, good times... good times...
One or two years ago I went to 125th Street in Harlem for the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival. It was a hot and sunny August day...leaving me very thirsty. Not having been up there in a couple of decades, I figured there might be a few places to go to get a refreshment. Couldn't have been more wrong. The only place open was an Applebee's. Long story short...I got a tiny sip of Vodka for $ 8.00 I wasn't very happy.
ReplyDeleteHoly crap. That was an incredible video -- I miss the 1980s and 1990s Coney Island. I used to work there a lot in the late 1990s. It's not the same now that it's safe and cleaned up. Ok, well it's nice that you don't have to watch your back there anymore (maybe just a little), but I miss the "old" Coney Island seediness and roughness.
ReplyDeleteTh Lemonheads in Coney circa '96 beats all the Coney music videos.
