NYC ABCs

Thanks to Bryan Waterman for calling our attention to this alphabet clip from an early 1970s Sesame Street. It used the streets of New York City to make the alphabet and many of its letters are from vanished signs.

The Q comes from the Stardust Banquet Hall and the R hails from a neon sign for RADIO appliances.

The T comes from a telephone booth, of course.

And the V is spotted on a sign selling hi-fi phonos, tape, rec'ds, and _OLO_ TV.

There are 23 more. Watch the video.

  4. The old school DVDs preface with a cartoon character named Bob who welcomes you to "Sesame St nostalgia" and states that these "early Sesame St episodes are intended for grown-ups and may not suit the needs of today's preschool child." Guess those of us who survived growing up in NYC in the 70s enjoying those episodes were ill-prepared for life today! Poor Oscar the Grouch has been marginalized by Elmo. Yes, he was gruff, but don't tell me I didn't learn something from that trash-talking, trash-loving, ratty, green muppet!
