After putting in a bank, undulating super-condo One Jackson Square now brings a Starbucks to 14th and 8th--that's keeping the Village spirit alive, as they once claimed:
The public park High Line is getting privater and pricier: "developers love the High Line." [WSP]
Marty goes off in search of swizzle sticks. Where will they be found? [MAD]
Jessica Hagedorn's new novel, Toxicology, opens with a scene near the Hell's Angels club in the EV. It's a story about real artists--looks good. [JH]

Starf*cks wouldn't want you to walk the six blocks from Bank & Greenwich to 16th & 8th without passing another of their habitrails. You might forget the brand altogether.
(pssst, if you need a pick-me-up, there's one at 16th & 9th, too.)
Oh joy, oh rapture; One Jax is getting a Star$. Can waxing be far behind? On-site pedicures?
More joy, more rapture; the High Line is the gift that keeps on giving. Wait until Ground Zero opens for business -- T-shirts galore, pizza slices, souvenirs challenging the limits of good taste. Olive Garden, McDonald's will soon remind us of the OLD NYC.
There were people waiting in line last night to eat at the Applebee's in Times Square. All tourists. If they only walked a few more blocks and were willing to spend a little more money, then they could have eaten in Gallagher's.... and see some NYC history.
I have met people who've proudly told me that years ago they had dinner in Green Wich Village: at a Howard Johnson's. It was on the west side of 6th, just below 8th. At that time, the WV was loaded with wonderful little places. Guess it was the lure of sipping a Ho-Jo! Now we have Applebee's. La plus ca change, la plus ca meme chose.
new york is embarrassing.
Panera is easily the worst sandwich shop in the world. Even worse than Subway and subway gives me the shits. Talk about a five dollar footlong.
Yeah...but I know what I am getting at an applebees. Who knows what might be on the menu at a Gallaghers, I bet not riblets.
For years I've told people in the cab, as we drive past the identical condos in the rezoned flower district, that the City Council had passed a law mandating that all new residential towers add ground level Duane Reade/Bank of America/Starbuck outlets. It usually takes a few minutes before they tentatively question my assertion because, well, it could be true.
