ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what's "midwesty" about the Astor Place proposal, but....pedestrian friendly is much more NYC than Midwest, where the automobile rules the day.
ReplyDeleteEvery time I see another article about Sitt or Zamperla destroying another piece of Coney Island, I get this pang of rage and wish that someone would do something - ANYTHING. And then I realize that those of us who care about places and their history are powerless against these soulless bastards who, abetted by the city, are only interested in making money.
ReplyDeleteAmazing that all you saw were trees. I saw a design that looks like it was made for midtown Manhattan. And it's a nice design, for tourists and those who like spending time in midtown Manhattan.

speaking of films: documentry opening jan 12th. about bill cunningham the 80 yr old photographer. hes been a fixture on 57th/5th since the 60s. check it out. his slide shows for the new york times are amazing. we worked for the same paper in the 70s. hes so cool. oh yes he lived in the carnegie studios untill recently. worth a mention?? thanks J!
