ReplyDeleteNot that I expected anything different from this Fedora "renovation", but I can only thank you for sparing me a trip to see my old haunt, now gutted and over-run with hipsters, white marble and black leather.

ReplyDeleteI finally worked up the courage to watch that Fedora video ... UGH... That was just awkward ... It made me sweaty (does he need to wear a hat and scarf inside like that?) ... And I'm with Mark — no need to go myself now. I figured he wouldn't keep the spirit of the old place at all. Bullshit Artist of 2010.
ReplyDeleteThat looks like the closest match for Nighthawks so far. The great detective work continues!

ReplyDeleteThere are some photos on Robert Otter's website(www.robertotter.com)showing the Nedicks on the corner of 8th St and 6th Ave in 1962 and 1964. Looks very similar to the diner in the movie stills, including the angled entrance with the broad vertical bars. One photo shows the Whelans sign on the next block which you see reflected and reversed in the stills.
ReplyDeleteWow, the Robert Otter photos are a fantastic resource. I'm still looking them over. Thank you, anon, for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jeremiah, for encouraging me to post the Blast of Silence stills.
