*Everyday Chatter

I got an email from a reader named Chris who wanted to share his photos of the vanished city. They illustrate how quickly and thoroughly New York has been replaced. It's as if we're looking into the deep past--the 1940s instead of the 1990s. Check them out on flickr.

    hey, was the Jefferson located on 14th near 3rd? where that big hole is next to the falafel place? Trying to place it from back in that era...

    that "disturbingly handsome" family that lives on the west side highway....oh my fucking GOD----their taste is hideous!!!!!! those fixtures. that furniture. all heinous. really really heinous.

    Irving Klaw, photographer of Bette Page, had his studio on the 2nd floor (a corner is visible) right next to the Jefferson Theater. On the other side was the Jefferson Bar & Grill, what a sleazy dump that was. Thanks for the photos, took me back a bit :( sigh....
