Thank god that disgusting Alaska food market finally closed; all the bodegas in a two-block radius of here are smelly, nasty and gross. Good riddance!
ReplyDeleteBodegas are fantastic and can save your life...as long as they aren't filthy and gross like some of these were. I'm all for keeping it real but safety (and cleanliness) first, folks.
ReplyDeletei've eaten many a sandwich from this place and i'm still alive. their prices were cheap and they were also friendly.
ReplyDeletei like to be clean and safe, too, but it's not the most important thing in life. dirt is not the enemy.
*sigh*
ReplyDeleteit's inevitable...
i live in upstate new york. it is also "vanishing" the motto seems to be out with old people old places old things. it's sad.
ReplyDeleteclean doesn't always mean safe... how many large super market chains have had problems with the vegatables meat etc. lately?

Depressing. I practice bboying accross the street in the commuity center and usually pick up red bulls gatorades and snacks here before and after... I refuse to buy these types of items from duane reade.
ReplyDeletethey better not touch Stella's next door - best cheese slice in that neighborhood.

I really need to visit New York!
ReplyDeleteAnon 1:28, why the vitriol? If you find a place unpleasant, don't go there. Those of us that like the unexpected, the genuine, and, yes, sometimes the sloppy, will continue to patronize such places.
ReplyDeleteYou should vanish from New York you pin head.
ReplyDeleteI live in this bldg. & was shocked to discover the bodega gone upon my return from vacation. Well, maybe not "shocked." The owners of the building are the Yatrakis/Economakis clan of 47 E. 3rd St. shame. Since they bought the bldg., they have been on a rampage to purge current residents...by any, and all, underhanded means they deem necessary. I guess when they saw that the Moinian group was ousting all the neighboring businesses, they couldn't resist getting in on the action. That store wasn't the greatest. But, it was nice to have a 24hr presence here.
ReplyDeleteI live in FL. I dream of moving to NY...hope all this will make more sense then
