I asked someone there the status and he replied they hope it's ready by December, but that sounded optimistic at best.Garth , formerly of Izarhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18004749917642309789noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-683382864156505640.post-54270833011919627812016-05-13T19:44:53.553-04:002016-05-13T19:44:53.553-04:00Is The Quad ever reopening? Is The Quad ever reopening? FGNYChttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10443142000045087252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-683382864156505640.post-71410473912003822562015-07-21T15:07:44.369-04:002015-07-21T15:07:44.369-04:00Holy cow! It was mainly being used as a rental house, where filmmakers rented it to show films that couldn't get booked anywhere else. While this could be democratic in theory, it led to a bunch of bad films and people stopped going there. The new owners won't just be showing his collection, but also other rep fare (classic, older films) and new films. And we didn't lose a theater to some yogurt shop - it will keep showing films.Brian Newmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12769266124249446053noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-683382864156505640.post-64071774543558053212015-06-24T19:13:07.630-04:002015-06-24T19:13:07.630-04:00I hope it survives with good programming. I was at the other cinema-extreme today, at the AMC 25 on 42nd street, watching The Rubble Kings, a really interesting documentary about gangs and the music scene in the Bronx in the 70s and 80s. I don't know if it will be extended, but recommend people to try and see it. Two other viewers in the audience this afternoon. The AMC still has vestiges of earlier years - ornate painted ceilings - but is a rather surreal (not in a good way) scene.onemorefoldedsunsethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05995652957356064546noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-683382864156505640.post-22067320889298686292015-06-24T13:00:13.127-04:002015-06-24T13:00:13.127-04:00Let's just hope Cohen doesn't ruin it. They once had a vending machine in the lobby, an altered ices cream sandwich kind of machine, called "Objets Vend'Art." There were four doors, and each door featured a different kind of art; things like "Dada," "Lawn," etc. I think it was $1 for anything from the machine.<br /><br />For a while, one door was devoted to "Mrs. Wilson's 8th-grade Art Class." I remember getting a plastic refrigerator magnet in the shape of a cat's face. It came with a note from the 8th-grade artist that said something like, "This is a cat refrigerator magnet. Please take good care of it."<br /><br />I had that magnet for years...Scouthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07860208585189661470noreply@blogger.com
