Still hunkered down in the East Village, waiting for the wrecking ball of gentrification to find me. Until then, I'll write this ongoing obituary for my dying city.
Condoschmerz: Psychological pain and existential hopelessness experienced when one's city is overcome by rapid, ubiquitous, luxury condo development.
Jeremiah: 1. a person who is pessimistic about the present and foresees a calamitous future, 2. the book that records his angry lamentations.
The Joneses: New York residents who are hostile to the messiness of the urban environment. Maintaining suburban mores, they seek to sanitize, concerned their property values will be decreased by "city people" neighbors.
Vongerichtified: The city is not being gentrified, it's being Vongerichtified, aka super-luxurified, the opposite of democratized. (Original usage David Kamp, NY Times.)

Nice! New York is littered (literally) with little grace notes like that. Detroit is similar but much different...
I just launched a site devoted to art, but don't have any artists yet. Anyone interested?
If so: http://www.grassfedart.com
I like the one on Bowery better but thanks for sharing both, feels sweet.
