Yesterday afternoon, a building partially collapsed--or threatened to--on 14th Street at 7th Avenue.
"It's cracked," an onlooker in the crowd said of 150 West 14th, former home of a gay porno shop. Residents had been evacuated and the city Office of Emergency Management was on hand, hanging out under the already erected scaffolding. Behind the yellow tape, we waited for some bricks to fall but nothing doing.
Anyway, buildings collapse all the time, right? So here's the spooky part. What movie is slated to film in front of this building later this week?
Hint: The movie has already racked up two freak accidents in the past week, a car crash on 7th and 50th that injured 8 and another in Times Square that struck 2 pedestrians and a Sbarro. Plus: A dry cleaners went up in flames on the same corner in Park Slope where this movie was being filmed.
You guessed it: Nic Cage's The Sorcerer's Apprentice is slated to shoot in front of this collapsed building. The lamp posts are plastered with Sorcerer signage.
Warning to the city: If you see these orange signs, duck and cover!
